Golf Digest: We're better on an iPad

August 03, 2012

If you ask Golf Digest's creative director, Ken DeLago, what makes the magazine so much better on an iPad, or even a 7-inch tablet like the Kindle Fire or Nook Color, he likes to say, "It's a magazine under glass! Isn't that enough?" Not only is he the design genius behind our tablet magazine, he's also one of our resident comedians.

When Ken's laughter subsides and his serious voice takes over, he'll tell you that the multitude of videos, usually 10 or more per issue, are what really makes Golf Digest on the tablet so great. "It's Golf Digest. And it's TV!"

For 18 months now, subscribers have been reading, watching, listening to and interacting with their Golf Digest magazine on iPads and other tablets. Most of the magazine's instruction articles have a video alongside, and in some cases, users can manipulate and learn from swing sequences of the best players in the game with the touch of a finger.

"I've been a subscriber to the dead-tree version of Golf Digest for many, many years," writes one Golf Digest app reviewer on Amazon.com. "The free-to-magazine-subscribers app is an amazing upgrade to the traditional magazine version."

This week, Golf Digest's September 2012 issue, with Spanish bomber Alvaro Quiros on the cover, went live in the Golf Digest app. And we can guarantee that Quiros won't walk out of your printed copy the way he does in this one:

The bonus instruction videos in this issue include lessons from Hall of Famer Tom Watson, Australian tour star Aaron Baddeley and the LPGA's Paula Creamer. There are also video tips from Butch Harmon, David Leadbetter, Hank Haney, Sean Foley and Rick Smith. You'll see photographs of Golf Digest's Most Fun Courses that didn't make it into the print edition, and you'll see longtime tour caddie Mark Long doing a Seve Ballesteros impression in video. Plus, David Owen explains in a fun video how he stays married and employed despite playing more golf than almost anyone he knows. And, lest you worry, the tablet edition includes every article and every photograph that's in the print edition of the magazine.

Best of all, the print magazine won't be on newsstands until Aug. 7, and the tablet edition is available NOW.
