Weird blight causing leaves on golf-course trees to change color

Something creepy is happening to the trees on my golf course. Leaves that were completely green just a couple of weeks ago are different colors now, including bright red:

Other trees on the course have developed strange bulbous growths -- none of which were there when the season began:

Even eerier, people kept referring to last Monday as "Labor Day" -- which used to come at the end of the summer, not in the middle, like now. The Sunday Morning Group has been coping by supplementing our kegerators with an all-day Bloody Mary buffet, on the clubhouse porch.

The Bloody Marys haven't made the leaves green again, but for some of the guys they seem to help. I'll let you know if I figure out what's going on.
