Tiger Woods confidantes say player is actually progressing

When Tiger Woods plays golf again remains one of the sport's great mysteries, but those close to Woods insist the player has at least inched closer in recent weeks.

Golf Digest's Tim Rosaforte had separate conversations with U.S. Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III and Woods' close friend Notah Begay, and both say the player has shown improvement since his last procedure on his back in October. Woods previously had his second microdiscectomy in September.

"He's making progress," Love told Rosaforte.

"He is starting to move like he's human again," Begay said.

The two players' remarks come on the heels of social-media reports that suggested Woods had regressed to the point he was unable to even sit upright. Woods' agent Mark Steinberg released a statement Monday refuting those claims.

“The tweets that appeared this weekend about Tiger’s health are ridiculous and absolutely false. It’s reprehensible that every few months someone makes something up and it’s treated like a real story," Steinberg said in the statement. “Tiger continues to work on his rehabilitation and we will have an accurate update at the appropriate time.”
