Tiger vs. Obama at the Vineyard?

The Boston Herald reports a rumor that Tiger Woods will venture over to Martha's Vineyard sometime next week to play golf with President Obama at the tony Vineyard Golf Club.

"Word here on the Vineyard is that the Secret Service has scoped out the oh-so-exclusive Vineyard Golf Club to prepare for a possible golf outing between President Obama and golf great Tiger Woods!" the newspaper writes.

If the rumor is true, the date of their round would depend on whether Woods will play in the Barclays, the first tournament in the FedEx Cup playoff. If he is playing (we'll know later today), their round likely would occur Monday or Tuesday. If he's not playing in the Barclays, it would likely occur late in the week, as a detour for Woods en route to the Boston area for the Deutsche Bank Championship.

In July, Woods said that he and president talked about getting together for a round of golf.

"His schedule and my schedule are a little bit busy," Woods said then. "His is really busy. He's got a lot on his plate. We'll get it done sometime down the road. I don't know when, but we will definitely do it."

UPDATE: Woods is playing in the Notah Begay III Foundation Challenge in Verona, N.Y. on Monday, which rules that day out.

UPDATE II: Woods has committed to playing the Barclays next week.
