The adventures of Ross Fisher

TURNBERRY, Scotland -- At this point, Ross Fisher might not even mind if his wife pulled him off the golf course to tell him she's in labor.

Less than an hour ago, Fisher had birdied his first two holes in this Open Championship to take a two-shot lead over a wobbly Tom Watson, and everyone from the Turnberry galleries to the BBC radio guys were a collective tizzy. Then came a bogey on the fourth hole. And then came the fifth hole. Fisher sent his tee shot into the right rough, barely moved his ball at all with his second, hit his third shot across the fairway, and then had to take a drop with his fourth.

It would eventually add up to eight strokes and a quadruple bogey, plummeting Fisher from the lead.
