"Putter" around Greg Norman's 8-acre Florida estate for $55 million

One-bedroom apartments aren't "whimsical."

On the other hand, if you're listing Greg Norman's 26,000-sq. ft. Hobe Sound, Fla. estate "Tranquility" for $55 million, it's OK to use some flowery language.

The property has its original circa-1902 colonial-style main home, along with seven other buildings situated across the eight-acre grounds, which extend all the way from the Intracoastal to the Atlantic on ultra-private Jupiter Island. After all, what says "Tranquility" more than a separate 2-bedroom oceanside guest house with its own six-car garage, or a carriage house with three bedrooms, two baths and space for four more cars?

The listing reads like a laundry list of Norman's interests and achievements. There's a putting green, a 165-foot deep-water dock, a gym/office building and tennis pavilion complete with its own clubhouse. You can tell guests about the spirited volleys between Norman and ex-wife Chris Evert, or point out the steps where President Bill Clinton blew out his knee during a 1997 visit.

And all of it can be yours for about what Jeffery Loria paid for the Miami Marlins baseball team. Norman has added to and renovated the property over the years, but he'll still be making a decent return, even with the $10 million discount from his original asking price of $65 million when he first listed it in 2011. He paid $4.9 million in 1991.

Shark, indeed.
