PGA Tour: Day five back in a rainy first round

Jason Day currently sits five strokes back of Brian Stuard in the midst of a suspended first round at the Zurich Classic

World No. 1 Jason Day shot a three-under 69 in the first round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans at TPC Louisiana on on a rainy Thursday, though it puts him five shots behind leader Brian Stuard.

Stuard, who regained his PGA Tour card after graduating from the Web.com Tour in 2012, opened with a 64 in his bid for a first PGA Tour victory .

The first round was suspended at 11:59 a.m. CDT due to heavy rains and the delay lasted nearly six hours. It was not an anomaly; it's the eighth round since 2010 that the Zurich Classic has had a weather delay.

South African Retief Goosen shot a bogey-free seven-under par 65 and is one stroke off the lead. He is seeking his first PGA Tour win since 2009.

Rickie Fowler, back from #SB2K16, finished with a four-under 68, four back. Smylie Kaufman, who was also on the trip, did not tee off until later in the afternoon because of the rain delay and won't complete his first round round until Friday.

"Well, I mean, obviously just having a good time with some really good buddies, it's nice to be able to get away, kind of recharge, reset, and especially to get ready for the stretch that we have coming up," said Fowler. "I know the next three weeks are going to be busy, and then we're kind of another little break before we get into probably one of the busiest summers that any of us have had coming from our early careers."
