Permanently defrost at this waterfront golf estate in Punta Cana

With the entire eastern half of the United States locked in the freezer, you could shake your fist at Mother Nature.

Or, you could move to the Dominican Republic, drink dollar Presidente beers and taunt your Boston friends over Skype.

This five bedroom, 11,000-sqft villa within the Puntacana Resort and Club has direct frontage on both the Caribbean and the P.B. Dye-designed 27-hole La Cana course at the Resort. You'll have access to both La Cana and the adjacent Tom Fazio-designed Corales course, which has six holes along the sea to go with La Cana's 14.

If you can't quite cover the mortgage on $4.9 million, go in with friends and take advantage of the twin master suites--both of which have water views. Lounge by the pool and revel in the fact that any mess you make can be taken care of by staff living in the dedicated maid's quarters.

The villa is insulated within a gated community and within walking distance to the Puntacana "village" and its bars and restaurants, and a five-minute drive to the adjacent Punta Cana International Airport--which has daily flights to New York, Paris, Miami, Charlotte, Atlanta and Toronto (and plenty of private jet space). If the kids complain about having to fly back to the arctic Northeast, take them out of school and enroll them in the fully-accredited international school nearby.

Overnight guests that don't want to crowd you could always book a room at one of the hotel properties within the resort--the 200-room Westin, Four Points by Sherton or super-exclusive Tortuga Bay villas.

Now get back to shoveling. And waiting for the next set of Powerball numbers. Follow @RudyWriter
