Marcus Fraser of Australia has the clubhouse lead at the Olympics, shooting an eight-under 63 at the Olympic Golf Course in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Thursday morning. He birdied the 18th hole to move to three strokes clear of the next best round through midday.
Canadian Graham DeLaet finished at five-under 66, recording just one bogey. Martin Kaymer (GER) and Thomas Pieters (BEL) trail closely at four under.
Justin Rose (ENG) recorded the first hole-in-one in Olympic history, acing the par-3 fourth hole. He is currently tied for fifth place with Byeong-Hun An (KOR) and Rafael Cabrera-Bello (ESP) at three under.
Open champion Henrik Stenson (SWE) and Sergio Garcia (ESP) were two under.
The United States, the only country with four golfers, was struggling early. Patrick Reed and Matt Kuchar were at even par, with Rickie Fowler at two over and Bubba Watson at four over.
