Colin Montgomerie, 46, produced a course-record 62 on the New Course at Sunningdale Golf Club that will allow him to keep intact his record of having played in every British Open since 1990.
Montgomerie, the European Ryder Cup captain, shot 69 in the first round of the Open qualifier and needed a round of 64 or better to qualify.
