McDowell makes move to top of leaderboard

Graeme McDowell would have been content to move into the lead at any point on Sunday after beginning the final round trailing Dustin Johnson by three shots. But after playing just a third of his holes, he is already in front -- by two.

McDowell, who hasn't been among the leaders in greens in regulation all week, has kept things together by continuing to convert testing par putts. He made his one good look at birdie after a great shot on the par-3 fifth and has been able to do all of this while witnessing Johnson's impolsion on the first few holes.

Ernie Els and Gregory Havret have been the only two players to mount any type of a charge, but Els just hit his tee shot into the hazard on No. 10 after making a bogey on nine and Havret just made his first bogey on No. 8.

No player from Europe has won the U.S. Open since Tony Jacklin in 1970, but at this point, the 30-year-old from Northern Ireland is clearly in the driver's seat.
