How a specially-made bed has Louis Oosthuizen in contention at the U.S. Open

After an opening 77 -- he actually smoked playing partners Tiger Woods and Rickie Fowler -- Louis Oosthuizen didn't look like he'd be around too long at Chambers Bay. Which would have been a real shame considering all the last-minute preparation that went into getting him a specially made bed for the week.

You see, Oosthuizen usually travels to tournaments with his own bed. And before you say, "whoah, that's weird," just remember this is a man who is obsessed with tractors.

But apparently, Oosthuizen couldn't make arrangements to bring his bed to the Pacific Northwest so he reached out to the company that makes his mattress, Stearns and Foster. The company made him a new mattress in Washington and got it to where Oosthuizen is staying for the week -- with a personalized message from one of its master craftsmen, Christine Hoyt.

The new mattress certainly hasn't hurt. Since that opening 77, Oosthuizen has torn up Chambers Bay with back-to-back 66s -- his "middle" 36-hole-total of 132 setting a U.S. Open record -- getting him into red numbers for the week and putting the 2010 British Open champ in contention to win a second major.

Go ahead and sleep in, Louis. You should have a pretty late tee time on Sunday.
