Jordan Spieth is ‘best person in world. We’ve got to keep him grounded’

Cody Gribble is a Web.com Tour player, but he’s also a former Texas teammate of Jordan Spieth's who is determined to help keep Spieth grounded, columnist Kirk Bohls of the Austin American Statesman writes. “I’ll give him a bunch of (grief),” Gribble cracked. “We used to call him ‘The Golden Boy.’ I don’t think he likes it very much. He’s very secure with himself, for good reason, but he’s the best person in the world. We’ve got to keep him grounded.”

The PGA Tour’s March Texas swing, which now includes the WGC-Dell Match Play Championship in Austin this week, is important to a Texan, Joran Spieth, not simply because it’s his home state. “Last year, Spieth parlayed momentum from Texas events into the biggest victory of his career at the Masters,” Bill Nichols of the Dallas Morning News writes. “He finished second at the Valero Texas Open, lost in a playoff at the Shell Houston Open and arrived at Augusta National brimming with confidence. He went wire to wire to claim his first major title.”

“Danny Willett would be a logical pick in any Masters pool – a young Englishman with plenty of game,” the Augusta Chronicle’s Scott Michaux writes in this story on a rising star. There is a problem, however. Willett’s wife is due to give birth to their first child, and he intends to be there for it, even if it means missing the Masters. “Would they consider inducing labor early? ‘If he’s ready, it might be something that we look at,’ he said. ‘But, you know, if he’s not cooked yet, then we’re just going to leave him a little bit…There’s plenty more Masters.”
