The final rankings for golf's return to the Olympics will be released on July 11. But with this week's scheduled PGA Tour event at Greenbrier cancelled, American-based qualifying is complete for the 2016 Rio Games, meaning Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, Bubba Watson and Rickie Fowler have earned spots on the United States golf team.
Whether those four travel to Rio de Janeiro remains to be seen.
Only Watson has declared he's all-in, saying he "can't wait" for the Olympic experience. Johnson, Spieth and Fowler have yet to commit, with the latter two expressing hesitation towards the August tournament.
"Right now, I’m uncertain,” Spieth said last week at Firestone Country Club. “Always been excited about the possibility, but there’s quite a few different factors that would turn somebody away from going.”
Fowler had similar sentiments, telling the media at the U.S. Open "I'd love to have the opportunity to go down there, but we don't know for sure yet."
Many of golf's top names -- such as Jason Day, Rory McIlroy, Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama -- have pulled out of the 2016 Summer Games. Golf at the Rio Olympics begins on August 11th.
