Everyone from Padraig Harrington to Paige Spiranac has tried the "Happy Gilmore" swing. In fact, you're probably getting tired of the schtick. But until now, Happy was the only golfer with the guts to actually try the wild move in an actual tournament. Well, a tournament in a movie, but you get the point.
That all changed on Sunday. John Peterson, in dead last entering the final round of the CIMB Classic and teeing off in the last group off the back nine decided he had nothing to lose and gave it to go. Thanks to fellow (approving) tour pro Jason Dufner for sharing the incredible clip:
What a shot! We're not sure where it went exactly since PGA Tour Shot Tracker didn't make the long trip to Malaysia, but it couldn't have been too bad since Peterson made par on the 10th hole. And it sparked a 66 -- Peterson's best score of the week by eight shots.
The best part of the video is the stunned reaction from the crowd, which didn't seem to get what had just happened. Apparently, "Happy Gilmore" humor gets lost in translation in Malaysia.
Earlier in the week, Peterson made a video of him using the bidet in his hotel room for shooting practice to help him get over an opening 80. The Louisiana native is a big hunter and has shown he isn't afraid of tangling with gators, both on and off the course -- something that hasn't hurt his popularity, either.
Despite his strong finish, he still finished last among the 77 players who completed the tournament. By three shots. But at least, it looked like he had fun. After Peterson's 66, he offered this advice on Twitter:
"Let it be known if you Gilmore it off the first on Sunday you shoot 6 under." Noted.
