How about an iPhone app to speed up play, instead?

We applaud entrepreneurial spirit and we're all for technology and congratulate Kevin Streelman for combing the two in a business venture that is beginning to pay off. However...

An iPhone app with which Streelman, a PGA Tour player, is involved has sold more than 7,000 copies in two months, at $4.99 a pop, according to this Arizona Republic story.

The app provides tips on how to hit a variety of different shots, from fairway bunkers to sidehill lies and anything else a golfer might encounter. At the iTunes site, it says this: "You can take your iPhone on the course and quickly look up what you should do in seconds with just a couple of touches."

It no doubt is proving beneficial to a host of players. However...

Shouldn't we be working on picking up the pace of play rather than encouraging a player with, say, a fried-egg lie in a green-side bunker to consult his iPhone on how to play the shot? Just saying.
