With all the questions surrounding the 2016 Olympics in Rio and how golf might fit, a memorable finish on Sunday put all those concerns to rest. Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson staged a close battle for a gold medal throughout the final round -- creating some drama that energized the conclusion of the stroke-play competition.

By all accounts, Rio was a success -- at least judging by the early reaction on social media.

Early indications are that Rio could inspire young golfers to one day compete for an Olympic medal, as evidenced by this tweet from Ollie Schniederjans.

On how a gold medal will impact Rose's legacy.

Since it was announced golf would return to the Olympics, Rose has said competing in Rio would be a dream of his. Now he's an Olympic gold-medal winner.

And more on the respect for Rose and his caddie Mark Fulcher.

Watching an emotional Rose be honored at the medal ceremony elicited emotions from all golfers.
