No. 21 -- Bandon's Big Plans

Old MacDonald had a farm, but never a piece of land like the one Bandon Dunes owner Mike Keiser had architects Tom Doak and Jim Urbina use for the Oregon resort's fourth course, which opened 10 of its 18 holes to limited play -- and favorable reviews -- in April. (The completed, 7,100-yard course will debut next June.)

Old Macdonald GC is an undulating track that sprawls for 400 acres along the Oregon coast, offering a wide-open, Old Course-like feel. The course is Doak's and Urbina's tribute to C.B. Macdonald, complete with their takes on the legendary architect's signature design elements, from Biarritz and Redan greens to a testing Long and a blind Alps hole.

In September, Keiser revealed his magical kingdom will expand yet again. He has asked Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore, crafters of Bandon Trails, to create a 12-hole par-3 course, each hole perched atop dunes overlooking the Pacific Ocean. If all goes according to plan, Bandon's fifth course will be built in 2011 and open in 2012.
