HOYLAKE, England -- Friday was a rather odd day for Rory McIlroy in the animal department. First a giant octopus threw his support behind him, and then a pheasant ran across the eighth green while he faced a birdie putt. McIlroy was seven under and in the lead at the time. Despite the momentary pause caused by the pheasant, Rory knocked in the putt anyway to get to eight under the day.
