Starting Strong
When I began the season, I had a goal of winning three times in 2015. One day, I’ll buy a nice car for myself. I love Porsches and the BMW i8. But for now, I need to focus on golf.
Life On The Road
Good friends, like Kelly Shon, helped me transition to tour life. There’s a group of us from South Korea who are close. It’s nice to just relax and talk.
DRIVER
Specs: TaylorMade SLDR 460, 9.5˚, UST Mamiya ATTAS shaft, S-flex, 45.75 inches, D-1 swingweight. I’ve had this driver for two years. A big thing for me is the sound. You instantly know if you’ve hit it well.
FAIRWAY WOODS
Specs: TaylorMade SLDR, 14˚ (43.5 inches) and 19˚ (43”), Fujikura Motore Speeder 5.0 shafts. My reasons for sticking with these clubs are the same as the driver: I just love the feedback.
HYBRID
Specs: Adams Idea Super Pro, 23˚, Mitsubishi Rayon Fubuki shaft, 40 inches, D-1. This is my go-to club to escape the rough. That’s a crucial shot for us on a lot of U.S. courses.
IRONS
(4-iron through pitching wedge), Golf Pride Tour Velvet 60 round grips, Nippon N.S. Pro 950 shafts, R-flex. For distance and trajectory, I’ve found these irons so easy to control. I love the crisp, muted sound, too. I don’t carry a 3-iron, and neither should you.
WEDGES
Specs: Titleist/Scotty Cameron Select Newport 2, 33 inches, 3˚ loft, 70˚ lie angle. This has been in my bag for all my wins over the past six years. That includes three wins this year and five more on the LPGA of Korea.
PUTTER
Specs: Titleist/Scotty Cameron Select Newport 2, 33 inches, 3˚ loft, 70˚ lie angle. This has been in my bag for all my wins over the past six years. That includes three wins this year and five more on the LPGA of Korea.
Keeping it simple
This is how my initials would read in Korean: last name first, then my first name. So that’s why “KSY” is on my Titleist Pro V1.
Studying the mark
I carry this ball marker from Korea University. I graduated last year with a degree in social sports.
Karate kid
I’m a third-degree black belt in tae kwon do. Here’s a shot of me practicing at home in South Korea. I was just 4 years old when I started, but now I’m a little out of practice.
Shredding!
Winning in Hawaii the way I did was unreal. A hole out from 154 yards to beat a great player like Inbee Park? So cool.
