The Week In Style: 03.18.15

What worked — and what didn't — this week on tour

Share story
Jordan Spieth
The Valspar Championship winner needed extra holes to claim his second career PGA Tour title. During the playoff with Patrick Reed and Sean O'Hair, some dude in the crowd yelled, "Nice belt, Jordan!" I always find it strange so many guys yell something after a player hits a shot, but I appreciate "Nice belt" over "Bababooee." Plus, I agree with the dude. I like Jordan's belt, too, and it may even be considered a lucky one now given the number of unlikely up-and-downs the kid made on the way to win No. 2.Under Armour
Ryo Ishikawa
Ishikawa showed off another fresh micro-print trouser Thursday at the Valspar, wearing it with the right color belt and perfectly fitting polo. I'm starting to see more of this shade of teal on tour, but if you're not ready for the geo-print pants I'd pair your polo up with a crisp white trouser instead.Callaway Apparel
Scott Pinckney
This may be my favorite Nike polo of the season. Saturated color with just enough high-intensity accents make for a modern shirt that doesn't feel overly technical. Strong work here from Pinckney, too, as he completely nailed the fit. Steal his move and make sure your short sleeves stop halfway down your biceps. Even without pythons, you'll look more in shape than you are.Nike Golf
Ricky Barnes
I'll admit it, I don't get it. Can somebody explain this slit opening at the bottom of everyone's trousers? As far as I understand, opening the bottom of your pant leg has zero functional value and, in Ricky's case, only makes a poorly fitting trouser look worse. Is this the first step toward heading back to the bell bottom? If so, I'm not on board.Oakley
Henrik Stenson
On the other end of the style spectrum, the Swaggy Swede worked the entire color wheel all week, helping the Valspar try to live up to the goal of being the tour's most colorful event.Hugo Boss
Will MacKenzie
I think MacKenzie is making a quiet case for one of the tour's best dressed players. Color can be fun, but there are a lot of ways to create interest with more reserved pallets. MacKenzie's Puma rig pulls in a lot of texture by simply varying the depth, tone and scale of two shades of white and gray. Very cool look.Puma Golf
Matt Kuchar
Forgive me for ranting about this again, but I'm going to keep calling out Kuch every time I see it. Look how much better the man looks in these flat front trousers! Less fabric = a longer and leaner looking lower half. Period.Skechers
Ryan Moore
Moore is one of the most consistently stylish men on the PGA Tour. What I like is that week in and week out he proves you don't have to be a peacock to stand out. A simple solid wardrobe that fits well will never go out of style. Ryan's look proves that classics can be updated, as the matte-finish trousers he's been wearing lately elevate his look from the standard-issue gear we've all seen before.LinksoulTrue Linkswear
Adam Scott
While I am all about the basics, it's time Scott moved on from these country-club khakis. It's only a matter of shade. A darker trouser would give Scott's look a more serious, stylish vibe. I know Innisbrook is near Tampa, but you don't have to dress like you live there, dude.UniqloFootJoy
Ian Poulter
No surprise here that Poulter used Valspar to flex some serious color with his IJP Tartan trousers and red matching polo. The man is one of the best at bringing bold shades, and I continue to like these sharp looks as opposed to some of the more mod, '80s looks he worked in earlier this season.IJP DesignFootJoy
