What worked -- and what didn't -- this week on tour

Jason Day
Impressive play at last weekend's Farmers Insurance Open netted Day his third career PGA Tour victory. I like this all-black setup better than most of his other adidas looks, and the new adipower Boost shoes are pretty cool, but I still wish we could get a little more excitement from one of the game's brightest stars. The Aussie just has too much game -- and personality -- to have his gear look as flat as it often does.adidas golf

Ian Poulter
I know Poulter is known for his tartan trousers, but the man looks awesome in these solid, pale shades of pinks, blues and grays. His kit is super soft from head to toe, all the pieces working nicely together. Polts does a great job of working in the white shoes here since anything darker would've broken up the balance of the entire outfit. Plus these soft moves feel fresher than some of the latest, Knight Rider-looking rigs from IJP Design.IJP DesignFootjoy

Jordan Spieth
This is a great shot because it proves you don't have be a total clothes horse to look great. Some guys love wearing color and pattern, and others prefer to play it safe. No matter what line you take you'll always look like you're on your game if your gear fits this well. Copy the sleeve and trouser length first, then go on borrowing from there.Under Armour

Conversely, if you're still not a believer that how you look impacts how you're perceived, feel and play, we've found you your patron saint of schlub...

Luke Donald
It's hard to pull off a pinstripe that's not a full suit, but Donald does it flawlessly. This is all about a) the perfect fit of his trousers and b) the super sartorial shoe that bring the same vibe as the dressier pant. This isn't the easiest move to put together, but if you've got the game, go for it!RLX-Ralph LaurenFootjoy

Kelly W. Shon
This is a very cool and casual look from the Princeton grad/LPGA rookie. Some of the most stylish setups I see tend to re-work patterns and fabrics in less conventional ways. Shon's seersucker hat and skull-and-bones shorts are classic prep staples she wears in her own way. If you're not the type of woman to sync up neon shirts, belts, hats and shoelaces for your regular game, follow Shon's lead and bring a more personal mix of style to the course.Under Armour

Tom Pernice Jr.
I'm not sure if Pernice thought the first round of the Allianz Championship was being played at night, but he decided to break out his glow-in-the-dark gear for Round 1. It looked strange in the daylight.

Lucas Glover
This was one of the coolest looks of the weekend from Torrey Pines. The tonal light gray rig is a very sophisticated play and comes off perfectly through Linksoul's SoCal casual vibe. The key is just keep everything in soft, light tones.Linksoul

Graeme McDowell
Prints continue to trend in menswear, and G-Mac has been leading the way for this on tour the last few seasons. This is a great shirt that reads like a solid but brings much more interest to the look.G-Mac by Kartel

Miguel Angel Jimenez
Miguel Angel always wears some seriously sartorial spikes, but last week he donned these five-pocket wool trousers, too. Golf's most interesting man isn't known for the subtlest of style. These pants, however, are a simple update to any wardrobe. They look like a dress pant and fit like a jean; wear them accordingly.Bobby Jones

Gallery dress codes seemed slightly more relaxed than usual last weekend at the Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic.

Ryo Ishikawa
Ryo is back in the Week in Style's good graces with this killer kit Thursday from the Farmers Insurance Open. Printed polos are cool, but wearing micros below the belt is a mega-boss move. No surprise Ryo's leading the way on this one.Callaway Apparel

Jonas Blixt
Blixt can take more style liberties than most thanks to his Swedish swagger. Still, no matter who you are, wearing all white can be challenging. We suggest working with another color, unless you're trying to look like a hospital orderly.Puma Golf

J.B. Holmes
J.B. hit on something Saturday at Torrey Pines that we're seeing more of lately: flatter, matte-color trousers. These feel fresher than a standard khaki chino or microfiber golf slack and also look much cleaner with hybrid golf shoes. Hopefully we'll spot more as we get deeper into the season.adidas golf

It smelt like team spirit Saturday at the Farmers as a bunch of pros and even some mascots showed up in all sorts of college gear.Nike Golf
