What worked – and what didn't – last week at the Wyndham Championship and U.S. Amateur

Si Woo Kim
The 21-year-old from South Korea ran away with his first PGA Tour victory at the Wyndham Championship and looked awesome doing it. Repeated scripting in navy and gray may sound boring, but each outfit had the perfect amount of pop color and smart details. Multicolored variegated stripes and contrast plackets elevated each of Kim’s looks from simple to sophisticated.

Both of these guys have been looking a lot better lately but … the red-and-black combination is a tough move to pull off for anyone. These are two high-contrast shades that rarely look good when they’re the only two colors in your kit.

Lucas Glover
Glover is one of the most laid back, cool dudes on tour, and his Linksoul looks are a perfect match for his vibe. I love all light-gray looks because they’re soft, and casual, yet still feel modern. Be careful where wear them though …

Grays have a way of showing it all. On or off the course, go easy on this shade if it’s going to get super hot and humid.

Another potential warm-weather wardrobe issue is the “bacon” collar—ya know, when your polo collar gets loose, sloppy and wrinkled? Banded-collar polos (more like dress-shirt collars and less like old two-button knit polos) such as the one Luke wore Sunday at Wyndham are always a smart, dressy look.

I don’t think there’s been a guy since Gary Player to pull off the black glove. Trust me, if this guy can’t make it work, no one can.

If the new U.S. Amateur champion is any indication of what the next generation of golf style looks like, we’re in good hands. The kid from western Australia pulled together simple, well-fitting rigs daily at Oakland Hills and took down the game’s top amateurs in smooth form. Looking forward to seeing this guy at the next three major championships.

Brad Dalke
The bruising University of Oklahoma undergrad who finished runner at Oakland Hills didn’t look bad, although he helps identify an issue when it comes to trouser fitting. Dalke is a super strong dude, and if you’re built like him, it’s important to find the right size through the thighs and tailor the bottoms to tapper your look.

Finally, I love the amateurs because these kids always bring the old-school headgear. What is it about playing the PGA Tour that makes pros drop the tour visors??
