Competitors go into training for weeks at a time beforehand . . .
And usually with a mentor.
You're more likely to survive if you have one really core skill.
There's a lot of grandeur around the whole event.
And the people running the thing are kind of scary.
Each competitor has outfits lined up, picked out, and staged for the event.
Some people tend to form alliances early.
Alliances that inevitably drift apart as the event stretches on.
Many fall victim early in the competition.
Injuries are almost guaranteed.
Sponsors try their best to lend a helping hand.
Love stories tend to meander through the life or death tension of the event.
The venue is outdoors, and the landscape is ominously varied and beautiful.
And spectators love the cruelness of the competition.
The winners are crowned gloriously in the capitol . . .
Before returning to their districts as heroes.
