Tiger's Rays Of Hope

No, it hasn't been a fun season for Tiger Woods. But as these moments indicate, it hasn't been a complete lost cause.

Masters, Second Round
After a debacle of a winter that included an 82 in Phoenix, and a WD in San Diego, Woods took a self-imposed leave of absence to work on his game. When he returned at the Masters, he appeared to have made progress, shooting 69 in the second round to make the cut.
Masters, Third Round
It got better from there, actually. Woods opened the third round with birdies on three of his first four holes to climb up the leader board. He ended up shooting 68, and though he cooled off in the third round, his T-17 at Augusta remains his best finish of the year.
The Memorial, Second Round
After squeaking into the weekend at the Players, Woods showed some more resilience at Muirfield Village when he shot 70 in the second round to make the cut on the number again. That was the good news. The bad news is Woods imploded in the third round with a career-worst 85. But hey, we're only talking positives here!
Greenbrier Classic, First Round
After another disastrous showing at the U.S. Open, Woods regained some confidence at the Greenbrier, where he shot 66 in the first round and finished a perfectly respectable T-32.
Quicken Loans National, Second Round
The pattern was familiar. Woods again bottomed out at a major -- shooting 76-75 at St. Andrews -- but he again returned to an encouraging showing in a regular tour event. At his own Quicken Loans National, he shot three rounds in the 60s to finish T-18.
Wyndham Championship, First Round
With his season appearing to end with a missed cut at the PGA, Woods made the late commitment to play in Greensboro for the first time in his career. When he holed out for birdie on the first hole Thursday morning, it looked like a smart decision . . .

. . . And when he finished the first round with a six-under 64, he was provided at least the small hope his season could continue.
Wyndham Championship, Second Round
Most impressive about Woods' inaugural trip to Greensboro is he was able to string together consecutive impressive rounds. With a 65, he climbed even higher up the leader board, and was able to enjoy the rarest of treats: a late afternoon tee time on the weekend.
