15 Wacky Golf Guinness World Records

On Dec. 17, 2014, 103-year-old Gus Andreone became the oldest known golfer to record a hole-in-one. It got us thinking: What are some of golf's other lesser-known marks? (All figures officially recognized by Guinness World Records)

Biggest Golf Tee
Record: 30 feet, 9 inches (length); 6 feet, 3 inches (head diameter); 2 feet, 1 inch (shaft width).Details: How did Jim Bolin make this monstrosity that was measured in Casey, Ill., on Jan. 29, 2013? By gluing together giant yellow pine boards and shaping it with chainsaws. Why did Jim Bolin make this? Beats us.
Youngest hole-in-one (male)
Record: 4 years, 195 daysDetails: Christian Carpenter recorded the historic ace at the Mountain View Golf Club in Hickory, N.C. on Dec. 18, 1999. Take that, Tiger Woods!
Youngest hole-in-one (female)
Record: 5 years, 103 daysDetails: Soona Lee-Tolley became the youngest girl with an ace on July 1, 2007, on the 125-yard seventh hole at Manhattan Woods Golf Club. As impressive as that is, 5 years and 103 days leaves a lot of wiggle room. We can practically hear parents everywhere rushing their daughters to the course to break this one.
Most balls hit simultaneously
Record: 1,873Details: This mark was accomplished as part of Madrid's bid for the 2016 Olympics (in which golf is returning as a sport after a 112-year absence) at the Real Federacion Espanol de Golf Course in Madrid, Spain, on Sept. 27, 2009. Unfortunately, the effort was all for naught as Rio wound up getting the bid from the IOC.
Most holes in 24 hours
Record: 851Details: We're not sure how this is possible, but Robb James played the equivalent of 47 rounds of golf in one day at Victoria Golf Course (9 holes, 3,002 yards) in Edmonton, Canada. Was anyone else playing on the course? Are there more than 24 hours in a day there? Is Mr. James a wizard?
Most holes in a week
Record: 2,000Details: Geno Bonnalie accomplished the feat in Lewiston, Idaho, during the summer of 2011. Geno averaged a 71.802 on the par-72 course to also set the record for the most birdies in a week (493). To (sort of) put that in perspective, Jimmy Walker led the PGA Tour with 401 birdies in 2013-14.
Fastest golf cart
Record: 118.76 miles per hour Details: Built by Plum Quick Motors, "Bandit" set the record at Darlington Dragway(S.C.) on Halloween 2014. Imagine how many holes Geno Bonnalie could have played if he was riding around in this baby?
Fastest round (foursome)
Record: 1 hour, 4 minutes, 25 secondsDetails: Ben Crosby, Andrew Crawford, John Lyon, and Russell Hayhoe combined for this lightning-fast round at Ponteland Golf Course in Northumberland, UK, on June 19, 2005. Keep that in mind the next time you get excited about your foursome playing in four hours.
Longest golf club
Record: 20 feet, 6 inchesDetails: Not only did Michael Furrh create the longest "usable" club, he also managed to hit a ball 63 yards with iton Nov. 4, 2014.
Most courses played in one year
Record: 449Details: Married couple Cathie and Jonathan Weaver pulled this off, playing all across Canada and the U.S. from April 2008 to March 2009 and averaging 8.6 different golf courses per week. Funny, we thought former Golf Digest travel editor Matt Ginella held this distinction.
Most holes played in one year
Record: 14,625Details: Canadian Chris Adam accomplished this in 2012, playing 809 full rounds of golf and seven 9-hole rounds, all at the King Kamehameha Golf Club (left) in Wailuku, Hawaii. This guy must be a bachelor, right?
Most rounds in different countries in one day
Record: 8Details: Belgians Kasper De Wulf and Alexander Hautekiet pulled off the feat between June 24-25, 2013. The two teed off at the Tarvisio Golf & Country Club in Italy and then played rounds in Slovenia, Austria, Germany, France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, before finishing at the Damme Golf & Country Club in Belgium. Think these guys have any money?
Longest shot caught in a moving vehicle
Record: 250 metersDetails: David Coulthard and Jake Shepherd pulled off the feat on May 30, 2012. That's impressive, but have the Bryan Brostried breaking this yet?
Most balls caught in one minute
Record: 7Details: Brothers Daniel and Nicholas Parkes pulled off the feat at Edwalton Municipal Golf Course in Nottinghamshire, UK, on Aug. 26, 2013. Daniel hit 5-irons and Nicholas, wearing protective gear, caught them 100 meters away. Again, sounds like a job for the Bryan Bros.
Most time shooting age or below in one day
Record: 7Details: Bob Kurtz, 71, a former ESPN and CNN sportscaster, achieved this on August 1, 2012 at Oaks Golf Course in Fairview, Ala. Kurtz ended up playing nine rounds that day to get the job done, starting with rounds of 70, 68, 68, 67, 69 and ending with a 70 and a 69 on his final two attempts. You're up, Gary Player!
