Tiger confirms he'll play in the HSBC Champions

March 25, 2009

Tiger Woods confirmed on Wednesday, per our prior speculation, that he was heading to the Eastern Hemisphere in November not only to play in the Australian Masters, but also the HSBC Champions in Shanghai, China, the week before. The HSBC Champions will become a World Golf Championship event, according to this Sports Business Daily report.

Now the question is why the World Golf Championships has yet to announce that the HSBC Champions will become the fourth WGC event.

In December, PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem inadvertently revealed that the HSBC Champions would become a WGC event, as reported by Reuters.

"In today's world, a lot of players go over and play two events in Asia -- the HSBC, which will now become a World Golf Championship, and also the Barclays Singapore event," Finchem said then.
