Phil Mickelson's latest Baltusrol adventure? A slick recovery shot from near a merchandise tent

July 30, 2016

SPRINGFIELD, N.J. -- If you're a young fan coming to Baltusrol this weekend and you want to get really, REALLY up close and personal with your favorite golfers, make a beeline toward the 17th hole. On Friday, Jason Day hit a recovery shot from near the grandstands and it resulted in a cute interaction with little a boy. And on Saturday, it was Phil Mickelson's turn to interact with a few young (and old) admirers.

Mickelson pushed his second shot on the monstrous par 5 near the merchandise tent. From there, he hit a great recovery shot onto the green. Even better was Mickelson's reaction to the raucous crowd as he made his way back to the fairway. Check it out:

Mickelson failed to convert the putt, but the par was a lot better result than the triple bogey he suffered on Friday when he visited the crowd while exploring every inch of Baltusrol's first hole. You can usually count on Phil to find some unusual spots on the course, but until he tees off on Sunday, again, your best bet of being a part of the action is camping out left of 17. Just keep your head on a swivel.
