Bubba Watson just made the most disappointing back-to-back birdies in golf history

TROON, Scotland -- You might think it's impossible to be disappointed by making back-to-back birdies. You'd definitely be wrong. Case in point, Bubba Watson.

The two-time Masters champ got off to a fast start at the 145th Open Championship, but it could have been much better. On the 377-yard, par-4 third, Watson drove it to eight feet causing Jason Day, who was on the green in the group in front, to shake his head and laugh. Here's a clip of the incredible drive:

As Day and Rickie Fowler walked off the fourth tee, Watson smiled and shouted, "I'll try hitting it into your group again!"

Moments later, he wasn't smiling after missing the eagle putt and having to settle for a tap-in birdie. Then on the par-5 fourth, Bubba bombed another drive to set up this towering approach shot:

Watson, though, again missed a makeable eagle attempt. Visibly frustrated, Watson crouched down for a few moments before tapping in as his playing partners made their way to the fifth tee.

So yeah, disappointing back-to-back birdies? It's a thing.
