Asian Swing Good To Annika

November 02, 2008

Annika Sorenstam, who will play her last LPGA event before retirement at the ADT Championship later this month and last overall event at the Ladies European Tour tournament in Dubai in December, has had a pretty good Asian trip so far.

First, she won 13 of the 18 skins at the Rakuten LPGA Skins Game in Kobe, Japan on Oct. 28 to haul in $330,000 of the $410,000 purse against a field that included Paula Creamer, Ai Miyazato and Momoko Ueda. Then on Sunday, Sorenstam erased a five-stroke final-round deficit with a 65 and defeated Li Ying Ye on the second playoff hole to win the Suzhou Taihu Ladies Open, an LET event in Suzhou, China.

The victory was the 89th for Sorenstam worldwide, including 72 LPGA events. It was the first victory for the 38-year-old Swede since she announced on May 16 at the Sybase Classic that she would step away from competitive golf at the end of this year.
