Overview

Perhaps no course in the greater Phoenix area provides a better experience of the area's diverse topography. Some holes are framed by mountain ridges, others are out in the Sonoran desert. Still others are edged by manmade irrigation lakes or natural desert washes. Holes like the par-5 eighth and par-4 14th climb up long slopes, while dazzling par 3s at six and 16 plunge dramatically downhill. Quintero, a former private club, is a scenic and playable delight.

Review

“Quintero is a somewhat typical Rees Jones design on a remote desert property well northwest of Phoenix surrounded by mountains. The main selling point is the surroundings and the sense of isolation of each hole from the others. There are a few precipitous drops, some rather sharp rises, but also a surprising number of flat holes. Water comes into play on a handful of holes, but when present it is not always used to full advantage. There is a repetitive nature to many holes, in which there is a somewhat downhill tee shot and an approach to an elevated green, which slopes from back to front. In fact, all four of the par 3s are downhill holes with similar yardages. There is not really a strong sense of risk-reward—in fact, most holes do not require a lot of thought or strategy, as there is really only one way to attack the hole. The course’s main defense is the green surrounds, with some holes hard along the desert (off to the rear of an elevated green) and some incredibly deep greenside bunkers."

“Perfectly conditioned with spectacular views and vistas, plus a number of memorable holes. Some will find it a tad too difficult, even from the forward tees, but a relatively unique, if pricey, course well worth getting to."

“Very scenic golf course designed with extremely downhill par 3's and a couple par 4 and 5's that really allow you to enjoy the vistas. The practice range and 1st tee are roughly a 15 minute cart ride from the pro shop. Prefer more traditional walking experience but worth a visit."
