Overview
Golf was first played on the site of this course in 1896 and attracted the biggest names of the day. Its fortunes declined over the next 100 years, however, partially due to poor drainage. Several years ago, the Morse family purchased the course, and the revival has been inspired. Wisconsin-based architect Craig Haltom was given land for four new holes and reengineered the others using strong bunkering to create engaging strategies and some of the most whimsical, multilevel greens anywhere, several over 10,000 square feet in size.

“The design reintroduces a course that dates to the late 1800’s as one of the older in Wisconsin. With the redesign, the course is big and wide however demands proper execution and presents an enjoyable challenge. With movement and contouring the course is unique to others in the area. The course boasts a unique experience as an historic property and presents a round that many golfers may enjoy. The closing hole is a demanding par four that encapsulates the experience with fescue collecting shots to the right and misses around the green in addition to strategic bunkering. The green is severely contoured and connects with the large putting course to conclude the round."

“The Club at Lac La Belle design is interesting and dynamic where golfers can experience collection areas and adjoining fairways that connect fairways, greens, and tee boxes. This is particularly apparent on holes: 5, 16, 17 and 18. Throughout the round, there is an abundance of risk and reward opportunities where overly aggressive lines and misplayed shots can be penalized with severe bunkering and hazards. "

“A challenge of Lac La Belle can be seen in the green complexes. The greens are large and showcase extreme contouring. This feature may be enjoyable for many and challenges placement, strategy and putting alike. The surfaces are firm and fast as the course underwent a complete renovation and remodel opening for play a couple years back."

“The Club at Lac La Belle has undergone a major renovation. Golfers will experience newly designed holes and different sets of tees to choose the appropriate yardage and challenge for their game. The fairway landing areas are wide, greenside bunkers are deep and the greens are absolutely huge. Besides being large greens players will run into humps, bumps and slopes on them that are rarely found on a modern golf course. The overall condition of the course was very good and that should only improve over time as the course grows in more. If you play here be sure to check out their displays in the Rivalry Pub. If the General Manager is available he can share with you some amazing history as Willie Anderson (US Open Champion 1903, 1904 and 1905) and Alex Smith (US Open Champion 1906 and 1910) both worked here as club pros. The course is fun to play and I would have rated it higher if the green fees were less expensive."
