UCLA finshes fall No. 1 in women's poll

November 23, 2011

The UCLA Bruins closed out the fall the way started it, atop the Golf World/NGCA women's Division I coaches' poll. The Bruins claimed 22 of the 24 available first-place votes after winning three of their four fall starts, to keep their No. 1 ranking heading into the winter break.

After the Bruins, Alabama jumped from No. 3 to No. 2 with Auburn, USC and Vanderbilt rounding out the top five. Interestingly eight schools that appear in the final fall poll did not appear in the preseason edition, which was one less than a year ago. The best performer among those not expected to do much in 2011-12? Oklahoma State at No. 8.

Three-time defending NCAA champion Nova Southeastern earned 13 of the 15 available first-place votes to stay atop the final fall Golf World/NGCA Division II coaches' poll. The Sharks won their lone D-II tournament, the Shark Invitational, which they hosted. They also finished third, third and fourth in four D-I tournaments.

And Methodist, surprise, surprise, did it again, staying atop the final fall Golf World/NGCA Division III coaches' poll, earning 17 of 19 first-place votes. The 14-time defending NCAA champs won twice this fall, the O'Brien National Invitational and the Martin & Wallace Invitational, to set the pace in D-III.
