Golf World players of the week: April 12-18

MEN

Russell Henley, Georgia

The junior from Macon, Ga., became the 15th Bulldog to win the SEC individual title when he shot a final-round 67 at Sea Island GC in St. Simons Island, Ga., to tie South Carolina's George Bryan IV at six-under 204, then won when he holed a 10-foot birdie putt on the second playoff hole.

"I told him going out there the second time, I've walked 20 holes with you today, so you better end it here because I'm not sure I can keep going,'" UGA coach Chris Haack joked afterward. "Russell played so well today. He kept us in it the whole time. Being out there with him today was so much fun."

Henley said having the pressure of the team competition off his back helped him when he played the extra two holes.

"The main thing was I wanted our team to win - and we'd already done that," Henley said. "So after that, I was pretty relaxed. I was already so happy about the team, so being the medalist was just icing on the cake."

WOMEN__

Jodi Ewart, New Mexico

For the third time in four years, the senior was medalist at the Mountain West Conference Championship, shooting a one-over 217 at Black Horse GC in Seaside, Calif. It was her fifth career win, setting the Lobo school record. Her efforts also helped UNM win a third-straight MWC team title while Ewart was named player of the year for a fourth straight time.

"I was just steady most of the day," said Ewart of her final round. "It means a lot to me to set the school record for championships. Caroline [Keggi] was a great golfer. It's also a huge honor to be named MWC player of the year again because there have been so many great players the past four years."
