Save for later

Oh, Viktor. Gotta love him.

Viktor Hovland was cruising around in the middle of the field Sunday at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am when he reached the historic 18th hole at Pebble Beach, which was his ninth hole of the day. He made birdie on 14 and was coming off bogey at 17 and flew his drive on the 18th into the iconic tree in the fairway.

The ball didn’t come down. No one saw it. Somehow it remained in the tree.

Thankfully, we have video. And what a video it is.

As you can see there are a bunch of dudes standing there staring into a tree when Hovland takes his umbrella and heaves it into the tree. And, um, neither the ball nor the tree came down. The caption to the video says that Shay, as in Hovland’s caddie Shay Knight, is in the tree but that part is not clear.

Hovland went back to the tee and hit another drive, hit an approach shot to 16 feet and two-putted for a bogey. He made eight pars and a birdie on his final nine holes to shoot an ordinary even-par 72 that was anything but ordinary. He tied for 58th place at six-under-par total.
