A scary scene happened Friday afternoon at one of the world’s most well-known golf courses when a small airplane made an emergency landing at Riviera Country Club in California.

The single-engine aircraft landed around 1 p.m. local time, according to reports, and had three people on board with the Los Angeles Fire Department saying that no one was injured. The plane was bound for Santa Monica Airport—only five miles from Riviera—and the cause for the emergency landing is unknown, but like all such emergencies, it will be investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board.

Riviera, ranked 18th in Golf Digest's list of America's Greatest Courses, did not host the Genesis Invitational earlier this year on the PGA Tour, as it was moved south to Torrey Pines in San Diego because of all the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles. Riviera is expected to host the Genesis in 2026 and will host the men’s and women’s Olympic competition in summer 2028.
