Watch the Ole Miss AD play a cruel golf prank on the national coach of the year

“The Simpsons” predicts everything, but who would’ve thought that there’d be a perfect moment representing Ole Miss’ Chris Malloy finding out he was named Golfweek’s 2024-2025 National Coach of the Year? As Bart points out to Lisa (and we’ll point out to you regarding Malloy), “you can actually pinpoint the second when his heart rips in half.”
For a bit of backstory, Chris Malloy led the Runnin' Rebels to a first-ever No. 1 national ranking in October, along with the squad’s first match play appearance in the NCAA Championships. The team fell short, losing to the eventual champs in Oklahoma State, however, this was easily one of the best seasons in the program’s history. And it all led to some much-deserved national recognition from Golfweek.
One would think that this would be as open-and-shut an announcement as possible, but athletic director Keith Carter decided to have a bit of (cruel) fun with the news. This is perhaps the only time where we’re perfectly fine with a coach telling his AD and staff, “I’m going to kill y’all.
“Well, have a seat,” Carter begins (with some impressive acting chops). “So I felt like it’d be best to talk about this in person. So I got a call yesterday and I think it could turn into a big deal. And so I just wanted to make sure that we’re all on the same page. Do you have any idea? Well, so I got a call and found out that you have been named Golfweek’s 2024-’25 Men’s Golf Coach of the Year.”
The Ole Miss Men’s Golf Twitter account states that “Everyone needs to be pranked every now and then 😂,” and yet even we feel a bit squeamish with this one. You can clearly see Malloy’s heart stop in his chest as he thinks about every single interaction he’s had over the past year. Let’s go to the tape!

Luckily (and thankfully for any local hospitals), Carter didn’t leave him hanging for too long, eventually revealing that it was all good news. At the point, the color come back into Malloy’s face as he accepted the honor.
The top-tier coach goes on to admit that he thought he was getting fired heading into the building, and then rightfully says, “I’m going to get you ... I’m getting everybody.” Congrats to Chris Malloy on his honor, and we hope he’s as good a prankster as he is a coach. Because no one deserves to be pranked more than AD Keith Carter.
