Tiger Woods, Y'all
U.S. Open 2025: Highlights of Tiger Woods' incredible 2008 U.S. Open produced the best weather delay ever on social media
Nobody likes weather delays, least of all on a major Sunday. Unfortunately, Mother Nature didn’t get the memo. On Sunday evening, the skies over Oakmont opened, dumping even more water on an already saturated golf course. As the horn blew, however, NBC threw up a Flutie-like Hail Mary, airing Tiger Woods’ unbelievable back nine during the third round of the 2008 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines. Golf fans quickly locked in on Tiger’s now-legendary charge as if they were watching it for the first time. What could have been another snore-fest of a weather delay turned into a party on social media as golf fans turned out in droves to celebrate the incomparable power of peak Tiger.
Great work across the board, everyone. A true team effort.
The highlights helped pass the time until play resumed at Oakmont, but they struck an emotional chord as well. They gave the old dogs a reminder of Woods’ greatness and the young pups a crash course in pure golf charisma, all on Father’s Day. For that alone, we believe Sunday's stoppage has earned the right to be called the greatest weather delay ever.
