Art But Make It Sports
Artist who created Tiger Woods portrait out of golf tees completes new masterpiece using 30,000 wood blocks
Paint is sooooo 2023. Art in 2024 is all about thousands of tiny pieces of wood. Just ask Kansas City based artist Aaron Norris. Norris graced these pages last year when he completed a portrait of Tiger Woods made entirely out of golf tees. We didn’t think he could top that feat, but that was before we saw his latest Tiger tribute, crafted from 30,000 tiny blocks of wood. Feast your eyes.
Norris’ previous piece used 25,000 tees to illustrate peak Tiger on the prowl, but he went even bigger this time around, setting his sights on a blank 4’ x 8’ canvas. Norris used a combination of oak, maple, walnut, elm and hackberry to create the portrait’s intricate shadowing, even cutting many of the pieces himself.

The piece took two months and five days to complete. Asked on Instagram how many beers it required, Norris replied “lots.” The end result was worth it, however, and could be hanging in your home soon. Some might say it belongs in The Louvre instead, but we’d settle for Butler Cabin.
