Tiger vs. Phil on Sunday: Too much to hope for?

April 07, 2009

Each has won recently -- Phil Mickelson the WGC-CA Championship, Tiger Woods the Arnold Palmer Invitational -- two players who don't necessarily care for one another, the two best players in the world, both of them multiple winners at Augusta National.

What are the chances that late on Sunday afternoon, they are vying to win the Masters? The stars do seemed aligned. Doug Ferguson of the Associated Press reports:

"'Hopefully, we will both play well,' Mickelson said. 'We have 54 holes where we have to play great golf. I don't think that's a question for him. I think he's playing some great golf, and I think he's going to be there. I think that I've been playing some of the best golf of my career, and I believe I'm going to be there, too.'

"On a tough golf course where birdies have become more rare, that might be enough to bring back some roars to the Masters."
