Carol Semple Thompson, World Golf Hall of Fame member and one of the best female amateurs in the history of the game, is at Oakmont this week, fulfilling her duties for the USGA. But it's also a homegame of sorts, considering her home course, Sewickley Heights, is about a half hour northwest.
I've had the honor of playing with Thompson twice, and the one thing I remember most was her amazing positivity. No matter the shot, Thompson clearly loved the game.
So it comes as no surprise that Thompson's license plate reads, "Play Wel" (see photo, below). What a nice reminder that must be, every time she carries her golf clubs in and out of her trunk.
