There are Ryo and Rory, but what about Danny?

February 20, 2009

So much attention has been paid to Rory McIlroy and Ryo Ishikawa, 19 and 17, respectively, in discussions on the youth assault on golf that Danny Lee, 18, has largely been left out of the conversation. Maybe it's time to include him.

Midway through the Johnnie Walker Classic in Perth, Australia, Lee, a New Zealand amateur, is tied for third, one stroke off the lead in a tournament with a strong field that includes Anthony Kim, Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood. Lee is the reigning U.S. Amateur champion, who at 18 years, 1 month, became the youngest ever to have won the event. Lee tied for 20th in his PGA Tour debut last year, in the Wyndham Championship.
