'Smoking ban threatens to make golf pointless'

May 07, 2009

Spokane, Wash., is attempting to ban smoking on its four public golf courses, creating a backlash principally from those for whom a cigar is as pertinent to a round of golf as a golf ball.

"Golf and cigars go together like a hand in a glove," Dale Taylor of Tacoma, president of the Cigar Association of Washington, told the Associated Press. "That may be the only time some people smoke."

The best measure of the passion many golfers have for their cigars comes from this headline from luxist.com: "Smoking ban threatens to make golf pointless."
