She's got legs -- and she knows how to use them

    April 02, 2010

RANCHO MIRAGE, CALIF.-  Lorena Ochoa looks so comfortable on the golf course this week, it's hard to believe she shot rounds of 79 and 76 in her last two tournaments. After starting off slowly in round two here at the Kraft Nabisco, she managed four birdies on her back nine (holes 1 through 9) and finished the day at two under par, six under for the tournament and in a share of the lead with Karen Stupples.

*Ochoa is not a big girl, but she has a lot of power thanks to her strong legs and fast release, and she's using all of it to her advantage this week. At just over 6,700 yards, the Dinah Shore Championship Course at Mission Hills CC is one of the longest tracks on the LPGA Tour rota, and with the four-inch rough getting thicker and longer by the minute, the ability to hit long, straight drives is crucial to the players' success. Ochoa has averaged 268 yards off the tee so far, and her stellar short game has helped save her when she's missed the fairway.
