Seems like old times for Duke women
The 2012 conference championship got off to a familiar start with the Duke women claiming the team title this afternoon at the ACC Championship, beating North Carolina by 10 strokes after posting a 23-over 875 for the tournament. It was the Blue Devils 17th conference title overall but their first since 2008.
Duke junior Lindy Duncan likely locked up national player-of-the-year award with a six-stroke individual victory. Her three-under 210 was the only sub-par 54-hole score at Sedgefield CC in Greensboro, N.C., and it marked the fourth time in eight starts this season that Duncan has been victorious.
"It was a very long week and really hard conditions," said Duncan, who became the 11th different Duke player to win ACC medalists honors.. "All of us had to stay patient and hit a lot of fairways and greens. Luckily, I was putting really well all week and I think that is what kept me in it the most and I am just really excited."
Here is a look at how the conference championship season looks thus far on both the women's and men's fronts. (**=won in a playoff)
