Johnson Wagner weathered a rainy afternoon better than most at Silverado Resort on Saturday and held the lead when third-round play was suspended late in the day in the Safeway Open in Napa, Calif.
Wagner had three birdies and no bogeys through 15 holes and finished the day at 15-under par, one stroke ahead of 18- and 36-hole leader Scott Piercy and Patton Kizzire. Piercy had completed 15 holes, Kizzire 16 holes.
Paul Casey was in fourth, having completed 15 holes and trailing by two strokes.
The grounds crew was required to bring out squeegees to remove standing water on several of the greens late in the day, before play was suspended at 5:42 p.m. (PDT). The third round will be completed early Sunday morning, followed by the final round.
Michael Kim had the best round of the day, a seven-under par 65, one better than Justin Thomas. Phil Mickelson, meanwhile, shot a third straight three-under par 69 and is tied for 10th.
