A new PGA Tour season began in impressive fashion on Thursday with an ace, an albatross and a 10-under par 62 in the first round of the Safeway Open at Silverado Resort in Napa, Calif.

The 62 came from leader Scott Piercy, winner of three PGA Tour events, who made 12 birdies and two bogeys to stake himself to a two-stroke lead over Paul Casey and Patton Kizzire.

The hole-in-one was made by tour rookie Jon Rahm on the 182-yard 11th hole (his second) en route to a six-under par 66.

Morgan Hoffman delivered the albatross by holing his second shot from 251 yards on the 575-yard par-5 ninth hole from

For Casey, his round of 64 was a continuation of how he finished last season. Casey was second in both the Deutsche Bank Championship and the BMW Championship and fourth in the Tour Championship.
