The off-season in golf has become surgery season with tour pros taking care of nagging issues. On Wednesday, a loopy Henrik Stenson let his fans know a procedure on his right knee had gone well. And on Thursday, Rory McIlroy did the same regarding laser eye surgery, attaching a funny photo to go along with the news.
McIlroy's "idol and friend" Tiger Woods underwent laser eye surgery in both 1999 and 2007. Woods isn't as into sharing post-op photos, but on both occasions, Woods won his next event. McIlroy's next start will come next month at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.
The 26-year-old McIlroy has been wearing contact lenses since getting glasses when he was 10. Time will tell if the procedure has a major effect on the four-time major winner, but it probably won't hurt his putting, where McIlroy posted a dismal -.070 in the strokes gained category last season on the PGA Tour.
