Why Rory McIlroy deserves 'extra credit' for his up-and-down 2024 season
Pedro Salado
After yet another 0-for-4 season in the majors, inlcuding an utterly crushing defeat at the U.S. Open at Pinehurst, we were the first to call 2024 another lost year for Rory McIlroy. Some would argue even after he claimed his sixth Race to Dubai title on the DP World Tour this past Sunday that it was still a lost year given the fact a living legend like McIlroy is measured by one thing and one thing only: majors.
That's not the case we made on this week's episode of The Loop podcast, however. Host Alex Myers actually argued that McIlroy deserves "extra credit" for a 2024 season that included Sunday's DP World Tour Championship win and a pair of PGA Tour victories, bringing his career tally to 26. It's a compelling case.
We also keep it rolling with our new segments on this week's episode, like "best golfer on the planet RIGHT NOW," which was all-female this week, an overrated/underrated discussion on Fall golf and the golfiest thing in golf.
