When asked about arguably the greatest sports theme music ever, famed composer Yanni had this to say about his lasting contribution to golf.
"'In Celebration of Man' is kind of like a statue. And it stands for golf."
And now, it will stand a little longer.
On Tuesday, Sports Business Journal reported a new version of the former U.S. Open theme music on NBC will be coming back. But this time, it will be used by the network for its British Open coverage.
Don't remember how "In Celebration of Man" goes? Shame on you. Then again, you might be a bit foggy on the tune from not hearing it at the past two U.S. Opens after it was part of golf fans' lives for the previous 19 years.
Even after hearing it as much as anybody for those two decades, NBC play-by-play man, Dan Hicks, missed Yanni's brilliant theme:
In any event, here's a refresher of how it goes. And just imagine how glorious it will sound with the incorporation of bagpipes!
NBC confirmed (Yes, you need to get confirmation when it's a story as big as this) SBJ's report. The network also promised to pass along a preview clip when that becomes available. So stay tuned!
